Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem
Map of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem from the Greater Yellowstone Coordinating Committee
About
Covering parts of Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho, the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE) is one of the largest nearly intact temperate zone ecosystems on Earth. Its size, boundaries, and descriptions can vary but it is between 12 to 22 million acres. Because of its size, it is managed jointly by state, federal, and tribal governments, and private individuals. Yellowstone National Park is at the core of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and has “hydrothermal features, wildlife, vegetation, lakes, and geologic wonders like the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River” (National Park Service)
